I truly love this time of year! I can remember as a child my mother reminding me that Christmas and the holiday season was not about “getting” presents, but about the joy of “giving”. As a youth I struggled with that concept somewhat as each Christmas rolled around, but with each passing year became more and more aware that there were those around me who were less fortunate than I. Somewhere along the way, the wise words of my mother came back to me and as an adult I have learned that it is a far greater gift to have the opportunity to give than it is to receive.
Much of my attitude about giving could come from spending the better part of my adult life affiliated with BeautiControl and the WHO Foundation.
In order to help reach this year's goal for the WHO Foundation, Shelley Callahan, Advisory Board Chair, issued a challenge to ALL Directors at the Director Summit conference last week. If every Unit would make just a $70 donation each month from now to Celebration, we can reach our $616,000 goal! Just $70 per month! Many Units already donate this amount and more on a regular basis and we thank you and appreciate your ongoing support. We hope that all Units now will get on board with this challenge. This goal is so attainable and reaching it will enable the Foundation to help many more women, children and families who are in need. The need is greater now than ever in our lifetimes.

For the past 16 years, the WHO Foundation has been joining forces with BeautiControl associates to help create a better holiday for those in and around the Dallas area who would not otherwise have the resources to have a happy holiday season. Again this year, The WHO Foundation has led the charge and rallied the BeautiControl associates for another record setting season of giving. Together with WHO, we were able to assist in changing the lives of those around us during this, a particularly difficult holiday season for many families who are less fortunate:
- Salvation Army Angel Tree – assisting in the “Angels” that were not adopted
- North Texas Food Bank - our associated donated more that 2,000lbs of food
- Metrocrest Social Services – providing holiday gifts for less fortunate familes.
- Visiting Nurses Programs – This is a ‘Meals on Wheels’ program, serving more than 4,000 meals each day. We provided holiday gifts for each of the recipients.
The wonderful thing about the WHO Foundation is that it was established to help those smaller organizations that receive little or no federal funding and rely on the help of community or local funding to survive. Through your donations, the WHO Foundation is able to give back to the smaller and local organizations around the country. Since its inception, the WHO Foundation has donated more that $3.8 Million through the contributions of our Consultants. The WHO Foundation is truly YOUR foundation.
There are so many organizations out there within our communities that need our help during the holidays. Of course money is always welcome, but the one thing that is especially needed is time. Within our own communities there are hundreds of opportunities for us to donate both time and money and actively participate in changing the lives of others.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. This has been quite a year and I appreciate you all so much for another year of support. It is a pleasure to be part of such an amazing group of individuals. I am going to take a little time off for the Holidays, but will be back on January 4th with another blog.
