I have been extremely fortunate (and I don’t use the word lucky, because I believe that we create our own luck) to have had some amazing mentors in my life…both in business and in life. The funny thing is that some of my best life lessons were learned from people I work with and many of business lessons were learned from those who have nothing to do with business.
One of my greatest pieces of advice was this…”Every day that you learn, you change. Every day that you change, you grow. When you stop learning, you stop changing and, as a result, you stop growing”.
This, along with a select few other very wise quips from my father and others, is one of the lessons that I live by each and every day. In fact, at the end of each day, before I go to sleep, I ask myself 2 questions:
- What did I learn today?
- What did I teach someone today?
And you know what…it doesn’t always mean it was something positive. In fact, there have been many days that I close my eyes and realized that what I learned and what I taught others was not really something that I was proud of. But that is living. Some of life’s best lessons come not from what we did right, but what we didn’t do right.
As we sit on the cusp of another year, it is time to start reflecting on the past year and deciding where this next year will take us. I encourage each of you to ask yourselves these questions about your BeautiControl business as it relates to the past year and how that will change in 2012:
- What did I learn from my BeautiControl business in 2011?
- What did I teach others about my BeautiControl business in 2011?
- What did I want from of my BeautiControl business in 2011?
- Did I create goals, and if so, did I achieve them?
- What do I want from my BeautiControl business in 2012?
- What am I going to do to get there?
More than just creating a New Year’s resolution, I strongly encourage each of you to create a 2012 Business Plan for yourself…setting specific targets, deadlines and strategic tactics on how to get there. And I don’t mean thinking about it when you are in the shower or in the carpool line, I mean literally blocking your schedule, isolating yourself for a few hours and writing out your plan on paper. Once you write it down, it is best to share it with your team, your spouse, your friends, your children…or whomever you know will support and encourage you to achieve your goals. When you create a plan and verbalize it, it becomes real. You will never get to where you’re going if you don’t know where you are going.
And by the way...you don't have to be on the road to a Director or an Executive Director to create a plan. This is for every one of you who have BeautiControl as part of your life. It may be to sell $100 more each month or become a VIP so you can take advantage of the 50% career level discount, or to hold one more Spa each month. There is no right or wrong in this business. For whatever reason you have chosen BeautiControl, we just want you to be the best that you can be and know that we are here to support you every step of the way. BeautiControl is so much more than a company...it's a family and we are all rallying to help you succeed...for whatever your definition of "success" is.
In the coming months, I am going to dedicate a few blogs each month to a new series that I call “BeautiControl 101” This will take us through the History of the company, who we are as it relates to our mission, vision and competitive advantage, and a very in-depth look into how our business model is constructed and what sets us apart from other companies in the industry. Through this process, my hope is that you will be able to put together the pieces of this business and fully understand why I keep talking about building clients, creating and maintaining brand identity and brand integrity, selling at full price, the importance of group selling vs. 1-on-1 selling, your recruiting proposition, your 30-second commercial, etc.
As a company, we have just celebrated our 30th year. This is an amazing business and when all the parts are moving correctly, it is an engine that moves with such speed and precision and creates a momentum that can’t be stopped. So as we approach 2012, and we create our good fortune for the coming year, I hope that learning more about the structure of our business model will help give you the insight necessary to ensure that your business is in top-notch working order to generate the speed, precision and momentum that you are looking for.
I wish you a very happy holiday. Thank you for your continued support of me, my blog and my incredible team of EXTREMELY dedicated professionals who are proud to dedicate a large portion of their lives (and the lives of their families) to servicing you. Without you, we are nothing, and we are thankful to work for such wonderful, passionate women.
I’m off to visit family for the holidays, so I won’t have any new content until January 2nd, but I will be posting some of my more popular blogs from the past few years for those who may have missed them the first time around. Don’t forget to check back in on the 2nd to learn all about what’s new for January.
I wish you a holiday filled with peace, love and loads of happiness!!!
Warmest Wishes,
Gary
