Frequently Asked Questions
BC Spa Facial, skin s.p.a. & other recent inquiries
Why should someone purchase BC Spa Facial, and how do these products fit into MRP?
We have taken all the benefits of Maintenance, Repair and Prevention (“MRP”) and put them into these 9 core skin care products. Now you can get all the benefits of MRP in a more streamlined, multi-tasking, cost effective regimen. In the past, MRP was recommended based on the age your skin was acting. New technology has allowed us to make our skin care products even more customizable to YOUR skin. Whether you’re oily or dry, sensitive or acne-prone, our new Skin Sensors and online questionnaire (skin s.p.a. (scientific personalized analysis)) allow us to put together the perfect regimen of skin care products for your skin.
BC Spa Facial is free of parabens, sulfates, gluten, artificial dyes and fragrances. It is Dermatologist, sensitivity and allergy tested, and never tested on animals.
Here’s an overview of how these products are different than Skinlogics, Regeneration by age and Cell Block-C:
Cleansers – The BC Spa Facial Purifying Cleansing Gel and Purifying Cleansing Lotion are sulfate-free, paraben-free and fragrance-free. They effectively remove make-up and dirt without leaving skin completely stripped of any moisture. They also contain ingredients that react to your skin type – if you’re dry, it replenishes moisture in the skin; if you’re oily, it helps reduce the appearance of oil breakthrough on the skin. Also, both cleansers contain skin soothing ingredients and our Advanced Antioxidant Complex to protect skin cells from environmental damage.
Tonics – The BC Spa Facial Regenerating Tonic with AHAs and Regenerating Tonic with PHAs are unlike any Tonic that we’ve ever done before. We’ve taken the exfoliating ingredients from Regeneration that increase skin cell turnover and put them in our Tonics. This leaves skin radiant, smooth and visibly younger-looking. Plus, each formula has unique ingredients to soothe, protect, nourish and hydrate based on your skin’s individual needs. This formula truly combines the benefits of Maintenance and Repair into one product.
Scrub – The BC Spa Facial Exfoliating Polish is similar to the Skinlogics Facial Scrub in that it is gentle enough to be used daily; however, we completely revamped the formula based on new technology available and feedback from the field. The new Exfoliating Polish contains natural jojoba beads to gently exfoliate the top layers of dead skin cells rather than polyethylene beads. It also contains a Mega-Antioxidant Complex to protect the newly exposed skin cells and ingredients to soothe and replenish moisture in the skin. We also added brightening ingredients so skin is radiant and glowing – and super smooth!
Daytime Moisturizers – The BC Spa Facial Defend & Restore Moisture Lotion SPF 20 and Defend & Restore Moisture Creme SPF 20 are probably the most multi-tasking products in the line. They combine all of the benefits of Maintenance, Repair and Prevention. First, you get amazing hydration that is customized for your skin – whether you need just a little, or a lot. Second, you get the reparative benefits of Regeneration with the inclusion of anti-aging peptides. Lastly, you get the Prevention benefits of SPF 20, plus antioxidant protection.
*Packaging may vary in Canada. Before we can sell a product claiming to have SPF in Canada, it has to receive a NHN/DIN from the Canadian government. We are awaiting approval for these products, so we cannot claim SPF in Canada. However, the ingredients are the same as the US versions.
Nighttime Moisturizer – The BC Spa Facial Defend & Restore Night Creme combines the benefits Maintenance and Repair with this breakthrough formula that provides oil-free hydration deep into the epidermis so skin is left feeling smooth and perfectly hydrated. It also contains anti-aging ingredients plus a revolutionary complex that actually helps the skin recover and recharge itself while you sleep. This formula is also known to utilize a unique biomimetic Liquid Crystal Complex that is similar to skin’s own structure and may act as a delivery system releasing active ingredients gradually into the skin so they do not disrupt its natural lipid barrier.
Eye Creme – The BC Spa Facial Restructuring Eye Creme combines the benefits of Maintenance and Repair and was designed to target fine lines and wrinkles around the eye, as well as loss of firmness. Plus, it provides oil-free hydration and antioxidant protection for silky-smooth, healthy-looking skin. This formula is also known to utilize a unique biomimetic Liquid Crystal Complex that is similar to skin’s own structure and may act as a delivery system releasing active ingredients gradually into the skin so they do not disrupt its natural lipid barrier.
Every person’s skin is unique, so why not have a skincare regimen that is customized to provide exactly what your skin needs, and leave out what it doesn’t? Plus, now you don’t have to choose what’s more important for your skin – Maintenance, Repair or Prevention – you can have it all! The new BC Spa Facial line and skin s.p.a., allow you to streamline and customize your skincare regimen and achieve beautiful, healthy-looking skin – at every age!
Where can I find more detailed information on the products?
With each new product launch, we will post a Product Profile to BeautiNet. These are located under Business Tools > Forms on File > Product. These are also approved for use with your clients, if you choose.
What is the plan for Skinlogics (current MRP lines)?
We will have full quantities of the existing skin care through at least March of 2011. At that time, we will evaluate the line and see what products, if any, need to remain in the line. We will then take those products and go through a series of re-branding to make them a generic "Skinlogics" line rather than gold, platinum, etc. Skinlogics Sensitive and Clear will remain in the line indefinitely.
What do I tell my clients who inquire on the price difference between the Age Regimens and BC Spa Facial?
A full age-driven MRP line costs: 20s - $198, 30s - $228, 40s - $235, 50s+ - $250, and a complete 6-piece regimen of BC Spa Facial costs approximately $173 (USD). BC Spa Facial is one of the most scientifically-advanced skin care lines on the market right now. It combines all of the benefits of Maintenance, Repair and Prevention in five simple steps with only six products. For its level of technology, it is still significantly more cost-efficient to other comparable products on the market.

Can our clients use BC Spa Facial products as they run out of their previous Skinlogics and Regeneration products?
Yes, it is okay when transitioning clients to offer them product for product as they transition out of the old and into the new.
How long should a full regimen of BC Spa Facial last for my clients?
This will differentiate depending on how much each client uses of each product. Based on our test panels, the new line should last approximately three months based on recommended usage. We recommend that you use a pea-size amount of each product. These formulas are highly-concentrated, so a little bit goes a long way.
What is skin s.p.a.?
BeautiControl’s new Skin Sensors and skin s.p.a. (scientific personalized analysis) are the secret to a personalized, scientifically-advanced skin care regiment that meets your skin’s specific needs. Our incredibly intuitive Skin Sensors assess the condition of your skin and the easy-to-use skin s.p.a. effectively analyzes factors such as age, skin concerns, sensitivity and complexion to prescribe your personalized skin care regimen.
What are the numbers separated by periods at the top of my online skin s.p.a. prescription?
The three numbers are considered your skin s.p.a. prescription, which describes your unique skin conditions. The first number relates to the oiliness of the skin – the higher the number, the more oily you are. The second number takes into consideration your skin’s sensitivity and proneness to breakouts. The third number correlates to specific concerns with your skin – typically the higher the number, the more damage your skin has, based on your responses while completing the skin s.p.a.
Consultants do not necessarily need to know every clients’ prescription number as long as they have their regimen, but it is a nice tool to have so at-a-glance you can tell a little bit about that person’s skin. For example, from the number “80.13.27”, I can tell that this person’s skin is oily with little to no sensitivity. Also, she/he experiences weekly breakouts and has moderate skin damage.
How do I get Skin Sensors?
Consultants can purchase them in sets of 10 or 100 on BeautiNet or on the January Order Form (and going forward). There are many materials that will have a place to insert the Skin Sensors. These materials can also be located on BeautiNet and on the Order Form. You can also place the Skin Sensors on the back of your business card, and drive people to your BeautiPage to complete the skin s.p.a. We highly recommend subscribing for a BeautiPage if you do not already have one. A BeautiPage combined with the skin s.p.a. create a very powerful marketing tool for your business – and you receive a 40% commission on all BeautiPage sales. The skin s.p.a. tool will link directly to your My Business Calendar and Client List to store your client’s information and help you organize your Spas.
I already know that I have very oily skin because my face is always shiny, why do I need to use the Skin Sensor to show me?
Shiny skin does not always indicate oily skin. It’s best to check for how oil production varies in the different areas of your face before you purchase your skin care.
Do I need to cleanse my face prior to using the Skin Sensors?
No. The test will show the distribution of oiliness on your skin at the time of the test. If you cleanse your face (with a good cleanser) you should see no oil—unless your cleanser is not working efficiently.
What if I have just applied a moisturizer to my face, do I need to wait a while before using the Skin Sensors so it won’t just pick up the oils in the moisturizer? If so, how long?
Yes, you need to allow time for the moisturizer to be absorbed in the top layers of your skin, at least 1 hour.
What if I have been sweating just prior to using the Skin Sensors; won’t this affect the results?
The Skin Sensors are designed specifically to ignore sweat, so a moderate amount of perspiration should not affect the result.
How do you use the Skin Sensors?
With BeautiControl’s exclusive skin s.p.a. (scientific personalized analysis) and Skin Sensors, you will receive a unique prescription for a customized skin care regimen that will help you achieve your healthiest, most youthful skin yet.
You do not need to wash your face prior to using the Skin Sensors - they can read through makeup. If you do wash your face, wait approximately 30 minutes prior to using your sensors.
Lift the Forehead Skin Sensor off of the card using the small blue tab in the lower right corner. With a moderate amount of pressure hold the gray square portion of this Skin Sensor against your Forehead for 5-to-10 seconds. Then set it aside.
Lift the Cheek Skin Sensor off the card using the small blue tab in the lower right corner. With a moderate amount of pressure hold the gray square portion of this Skin Sensor against your Cheek for 5-to-10 seconds. Then set this to the side.
Look at the faint square sensing area. You may see a pattern of spots or a series of lines if the skin is wrinkled (for example the forehead). The spots may be tiny and widely spaced or may be larger and close together. This is how various degrees of oiliness are made visible on the sensing area. You also may see no spots or lines at all. This may mean that your skin tends to be on the drier side.
Take both Skin Sensors and compare them to the Skin Sensor Diagram on the screen, and drag the labeled sliders for Forehead and Cheek to the portion of the each bar that looks most like your sensors. You are looking at the amount and size of the dots, or lack thereof. Once you’ve completed this step, select “Next” to move forward and complete your skin s.p.a.

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SKIN TEST USING SKIN SENSORS
- Do not perform a skin test shortly after washing the face. It may take anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour for your skin to replenish natural oils to what is considered its "Casual Level".
- It is important to apply a moderate amount of pressure to the back of the sensing area when making a measurement. This will allow for maximum absorption into the sensing area.
- Do not remove makeup prior to testing as you may remove the natural oils as well.
- As with any test, CONSISTENCY is important for obtaining accurate results. If you do a test in the morning versus in the evening, results may vary because of external factors such as being indoors, outdoors, physical activities, washing of the face, application of makeup, time. This does not mean the sebum excretion rate changes but rather, interacts with external stimulus (i.e. sweating can wash sebum) changing the results.
- Oiliness levels can also change with menstrual cycle and age.
Special Note: Another thing to keep in mind when recommending to your guests to sensor and email you the results; for the MOST accurate reading, you may want to sensor on clean skin, at least 30 minutes to one hour after cleansing and prior to using a moisturizer. The longer you wait after cleansing the better. The sensors will read through makeup, but any traces of oil will be picked up and if they are wearing an oil rich foundation or moisturizer, it could slightly alter the reading. Once again, this is not necessary. It is just to guarantee to the MOST accurate reading.
Isn’t it true that the larger the spots on the Skin Sensor show a direct correlation to how large my pores are?
Not necessarily. Fine pores producing a large amount of sebum will show large spots.
I’ve taken several Skin Sensor tests on different days and every time it shows different results; how can I determine what my true skin type is?
Sebum output is not absolutely steady with time. However, provided you have taken the test at least an hour after cleansing your face, the patterns on the sensor area will look similar but not exactly the same. Of the tests you have taken, the one with the highest oiliness level more likely reflects your skin condition.
Is it safe to affix Skin Sensors on the back of business cards or in the mail? Will they still be accurate?
It is fine to affix your Skin Sensors to a business card or mailing without damaging the sensors. When mailing, we do recommend placing them on the inside panel of the print piece to fully protect them. The new Spa Invites will come with a sticker seal so you can safely close them before mailing. Do not touch the gray square on the Skin Sensors. Any oil from your touch may transfer onto the sensors causing them to create an inaccurate reading for your client. If you accidentally touch the gray portion and no dots appear, then they should work fine.
If I pulled off the gray film on the Skin Sensor, but then realized that was not was I was supposed to do, can I do anything to salvage the sensor?
You should be able to apply to film back over the square where it was, without pushing down on the center of the film, and then move forward with using the Skin Sensor as directed.
Why is my client’s skin s.p.a. prescription on the paper version different from the online version?
The entire product line was built around the online version of the quiz which takes many more aspects of the skin’s condition into consideration than could possibly be diagnosed with a paper quiz. The paper quiz is great to use as a guideline for those who come to the Spa who have not gone online first to complete their quiz so they can have something to use at the Spa. It is always advisable to get the client to log on after completing the paper quiz so they can get the most precise prescription and be entered into your client list.
In addition, the paper version does not have the ability to calculate “Personalized Special Solutions”, however you can easily do this by asking your client her concerns and recommending Special Solutions based on your knowledge of the products (e.g. BC Spa Resurface Daily Resurfacing Serum, BC Spa Solutions Under Eye Dark Circle & Puffiness Solution, Regeneration Overnight Retinol Recovery Serum and/or Eye Capsules, Cell Block-C Intensive Multivitamin Face Serum, etc.)
For your clients who do not have access to a computer, and can only complete the paper version:
There shouldn't be any drastic differences in their prescription, but regardless the formulas contain the same ingredients and benefits, just in different forms to address the oiliness/dryness and sensitivity.
The only concern that we would have is whether or not they get the AHA tonic and they are super sensitive. This should be captured in the calculation for the paper version, but if you see that your client marked that she/he is sensitive, but they received a prescription for the AHA tonic, you may want to alter their prescription slightly in order to receive the PHA tonic, which is a gentler formula.
Will we be able to enter Skin Sensor results and/or complete the skin s.p.a. with our SmartPhones, iPhones or iPads?
We are working on SmartPhone/iPhone/iPad compatibility that will be introduced after all the initial phases of the skin s.p.a. tool are rolled out over the next few months – hopefully within the first quarter of 2011.
How do we incorporate the skin s.p.a. and BC Spa Facial into our Spa?
There is a video posted on BeautiNet that covers this very topic. Look under Products > Product Videos > Education & Instructional > BC How to Spa.
Are all of the BC Spa Facial products non-comedogenic?
All of the facial skin care products are non-comedogenic. The eye creme was not tested for non-comedogenicity, as it is not standard industry practice since breakouts do not usually occur around the eye area.
My client’s skin has become irritated during her first few uses of BC Spa Facial. Why could this be occurring?
BC Spa Facial’s products contain highly concentrated and potent formulas. Some clients may experience some redness or slight irritation when they start their new regimen. This is normal and should subside as their skin becomes accustomed to these new products.
If this does not subside after a few weeks, then the Consultant may want to recommend the gentler products for their clients, such as the Purifying Cleansing Lotion or Regenerating Tonic with PHAs. BUT we recommend only changing one product at a time.
This is not abnormal when changing skin care products. The skin will go through a process of adjusting to new formulas, ingredients and increased cellular turnover. This is a more powerful regimen than we have had in the past.
If those oiler-skin clients are experiencing unusual breakouts:
This is not abnormal when changing skin care products. If you are using the Regeneration Tight, Firm & Fill Face Creme in addition to your new regimen, then we would recommend discontinuing the use of this until your face clears up, and just focusing on introducing the new BC Spa Facial products to your skin. It may take a few weeks for this to clear up. Once your skin has cleared up, then we would recommend reintroducing any additional products back in one-by-one.
How should I manage my clients who say they are allergic to SPF, since our new daytime moisturizers contain SPF?
The BC Spa Facial daytime moisturizers contain titanium dioxide, a full spectrum (UVA/UVB) sun protectant that is of natural origin. Titanium Dioxide, a natural mineral, is what is used in all foundations to offer coverage. If your client can wear any form of foundation, then they will be able to use this product without concern of an allergic response. Allergies to titanium dioxide are nearly non-existent. When a client has an allergy to SPF ingredients, it is generally sensitivity to chemical sunscreens.
To calm their nerves in these instances, you could give them a sample of the moisturizer and have them test it on a small patch of skin prior to using on their entire face.
If they are still timid, you could recommend they use the Night Creme both day and night.
Is BC Spa Facial for women and men?
Yes, this line is designed for anyone who has skin, regardless of gender.
Is BC Spa Facial recommended for our Sensitive and Acne-prone clients?
While every client is different, we do recommend BC Spa Facial for your Sensitive and Acne-prone clients. However, we know these clients may be reluctant to change skin care regimen once they have found one that works for them. This is why we are keeping the Sensitive and Clear product lines around indefinitely.
Will the skin s.p.a. tool recommend Skinlogics Clear or Sensitive?
No, the skin s.p.a. will not recommend the Skinlogics Clear or Sensitive lines. The new BC Spa Facial collection’s products are suited for those types of skin as well, and the skin s.p.a. will take their breakout history and sensitivity into its calculation based on their responses.
Is BC Spa Facial okay for my teenager to use?
These products contain advanced anti-aging ingredients that may not be of much benefit to more youthful skin; however, they may help to prevent the appearance of future skin damage. I would have a teenager start out with the cleanser, scrub and day and night moisturizers. If that seems to be going well, they can try the tonic and the eye crème. If their skin becomes irritated, I would stop using the products and consult with a physician.
I noticed a slight sticky feeling on my skin after using the Tonic. Is this normal?
The Tonics contain either AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) or PHAs (polyhydroxy acids) which are slightly sticky in nature; however, this feeling should disappear once you apply moisturizer on top of it.
I have very oily skin and am not used to using a night creme. Do I need to use the night creme in this line?
Yes, everyone needs to use a good night creme to help replenish his/her skin at night. This formula is oil-free and suitable for all skin types. There are two types of moisture in the skin: oils (like sebum) and natural moisturizing factors (like humectants, such as sodium hyaluronate). Even though a person may have oily skin, he/she still needs to replenish the natural moisturizing factors and humectants in the skin for optimal skin health. These types of ingredients do not make the skin oily. Remember, a little of this product goes a long way, so if you have very oily skin, use a small amount.
Is the new BC Spa Facial line safe to use for women who are pregnant or nursing?
If someone is pregnant, I would have her check with her physician about which products to avoid (since everyone has a different opinion). In general, The answer would be no; however, there are some physicians would would recommend agains the use of high levels of salicylic acid. If this is the case, she should avoid using the Cleansing Gel, since it contains a small amount of salicylic acid. She should also avoid using Regeneration Overnight products since they contain retinol.
Does BC Spa Facial replace the need for the Cell Block-C products?
The BC Spa Facial products do not contain the Tri-C Complex found in Cell Block-C; however, they do contain an Advanced Antioxidant Complex consisting of vitamins and encapsulated resveratrol to help protect the skin from free radical and environmental damage. The sun protection benefits of Cell Block-C New Cell Protection SPF 20 have also been incorporated into the new daytime moisturizers
What do we have for those clients who need more moisture for their skin, and/or loved the Heavy Duty Moisturizer?
We recommend the BC Spa Solutions Radical Hydration Concentrate. You can use it by itself and apply directly to your skin, or you can combine it with your moisturizer or serums for more intense moisture.
Should I still recommend Regeneration Overnight, Regeneration Tight, Firm & Fill and BC Spa Resurface Products to my clients?
Yes. These would be considered Personalized Special Solutions, and should be for those clients who have more specific skin care concerns and want more anti-aging benefits. You should recommend these products the same as you have doing in the past. The skin s.p.a. will give recommendations for Personalized Special Solutions for your clients based on their responses.
Example: BC Spa Resurface Microderm Abrasion for face should still be recommended for Repair, as it was in all of the MRP age groups.
Do the new BC Spa Facial Regenerating Tonics contain a hair growth inhibitor?
No.
Does the BC Spa Facial Restructuring Eye Creme contain Benzoic Acid?
No.
Do our cosmetic products contain aspirin or penicillin?
No, aspirin and penicillin are drugs that we are not authorized to use in our cosmetic products.
Have you heard anything about "toxins" in facial and cosmetic products (e.g. Hydroquinone, Imidazolidinyl Urea and Petroleum Distillates)?
All of our products are put through a strict toxicological review to ensure their safety and efficacy, but if your clients are looking to avoid any of these ingredients (most we don't use), then there are plenty to choose from. You can use the ingredient search function on BeautiNet to isolate any ingredients that your clients are concerned about.
